Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about using WhereItsGone.

Getting Started
WhereItsGone is a personal and shared wallet tracker. You can log income and expenses, organise them into custom categories, share wallets with household members or teammates, and see live breakdowns of where your money is going.
WhereItsGone uses Google sign-in — click "Continue with Google" on the login screen and choose your Google account. No password to remember.
Yes, WhereItsGone is currently free. There are no plans, no trials, and no hidden fees.

Wallets
Open Settings (the gear icon in the top right), scroll to My Wallets, and click + Create Wallet. Pick an emoji icon, give it a name, and hit Create. Your new wallet will appear as a tab at the top. You can create up to 20 wallets — see How many wallets can I create? below for details.
Open Settings, select the wallet you want to share under Wallet Settings, then scroll to Wallet Members and enter the person's email address. They need to have a WhereItsGone account — once added they'll see the wallet immediately.
Yes, but only the person who created the wallet can delete it, and it must have no entries. Delete all entries first, then go to Settings → Wallet Settings → Delete this wallet.
Go to Settings → Wallet Settings, choose your country from the dropdown (this auto-fills the currency symbol), or type a custom symbol directly into the Currency Symbol field. Click Save Wallet Settings to apply.
Each user can create up to 20 wallets. You can be a member of more than 20 wallets (if other people add you to theirs) — the limit only applies to wallets you personally create. To see how many you have used, open Settings and look below the My Wallets heading — you'll see a counter like 3 / 20 wallets created. Once you reach 20, the + Create Wallet button will be disabled. To free up a slot you will need to delete an existing wallet you own.
The + Create Wallet button in Settings will be disabled and its label will change to + Create Wallet (limit reached). If you try to create one anyway — for example from another device — you'll see a clear message explaining the limit. No data will be lost and all your existing wallets continue to work normally. To create a new wallet you'll need to delete one you already own first.

Entries & Categories
On desktop, use the form on the left sidebar — choose a category, enter a description and amount, pick a date, and click + Add. On mobile, tap the + button in the bottom navigation bar to open the add sheet.
Go to Settings → Wallet Settings and click ⛭ Manage Categories. You can add up to 50 expense and 50 income categories per wallet, each with a custom name, emoji, and colour. You can also edit or delete existing ones (you can't delete a category that has transactions linked to it).
Yes! Type a calculation like =12.50+8.99 or =45*2 in the amount field and WhereItsGone will resolve it. A preview bubble appears while you type so you can see the result before saving.
Hover over any entry in the transaction list and click the 🗑 icon that appears on the right. You can only delete your own entries.
Yes — each wallet can have up to 100 entries per calendar day. This limit is shared across everyone in the wallet, so if you and three teammates all log entries for the same day, they all count towards the same 100. In practice 100 entries per day is a lot — that's more than four entries every hour around the clock. The limit exists to keep the app running smoothly and costs manageable for everyone.
Every date heading in your transaction list shows a small counter on the right, for example 12/100. This tells you how many entries exist for that day out of the 100 allowed. The counter turns red when a day is full. If you try to add an entry to a full day, you'll see a message explaining the limit — simply choose a different date or speak to the wallet owner.

Views & Breakdown
The Spending by Category panel on the main screen shows colour-coded bars for each category. Use the Week / Month / Year / All Time / By Month / Compare tabs to change the period. Click any category bar to drill into individual transactions for that category.
Compare lets you pick two months and see category spending side by side with a delta indicator showing whether you spent more or less. Great for spotting trends month over month.
The Activity Log (clock icon in the top bar) shows a chronological history of all additions, deletions, and category changes across the wallet — including entries made by other members of a shared wallet.
